On the 31st October, the whole world will be celebrating Halloween. So without further ado, here is our selection of the best Halloween campaigns. If you happen to suffer from Samhainophobia (fear of Halloween), perhaps it might be a better idea instead to read our tips about generating customer loyalty or 5 reasons to consider PromoGaming for your next promotional campaign.

Tesco and its “SpookerMarket”

UK supermarket giant Tesco ran a video campaign entitled ‘Spookermarket’. Taking advantage of this spooky annual celebration, the retailer decided to play tricks on its customers by placing hidden cameras all around one of its stores. With 1.3 million views on YouTube in the space of just five days, the resulting video proved extremely successful.

Kellogg’s and its “ScaresVendor”

The famous cereal brand Kellogg’s installed haunted vending machines at different public sites around Dublin. The aim of the campaign was to catch passers-by unaware and film their reactions via a hidden camera. This marketing stunt ended up trending on Reddit (which is renowned for showcasing viral content and the latest trends) and went on to receive worldwide exposure.

#TrickorTweet by Topshop

“Trick or tweet” was a Twitter campaign launched by the ready-to-wear clothing brand Topshop to encourage its customers to use the hashtag #TrickorTweet to post their own take on the Halloween-themed look. Participants got to pick up cosmetics products in-store in exchange for taking part. The users with the best tweets were rewarded with gift cards worth up to £100. This campaign demonstrates how easy it is to link the online world to the offline world. Freshly bolstered by its success, the brand won the prize for ‘Best use of Innovation’ at the Etail Awards in June 2013.
